2010 Festival:
The 2010 Chopin Festival will take place on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at the Seattle Sherman Clay Store and also at the Mayflower Park Hotel. As in the past, there will be four age group categories. The winners of the Festival will be asked to play the following evening, Sunday, February 7, 2010 at 5:30 PM in a complimentary recital at the lovely Frye Art Museum auditorium in Seattle (directions). Only music composed by Frederic Chopin will be allowed.
While we had hoped to have a completely online registration process in place this year, we have decided to have the registration process proceed as we have done it in past years. This means that on November 1, 2009, the registration forms will be available to download from the website and sent in with a check and the signed letters of approval, etc. The window for students to register is November 1 through midnight December 15, 2009. Please revisit this website for further updates on the registration process. Students and teachers will receive forms with the time and room that the student will be performing in.
SPECIAL NOTICE!!!
We are adding a new award category. There will be a special prize awarded within each of divisions A,B,C, and D for the best performance of a Chopin mazurka. The mazurka must be played within the allotted time for your division. It is possible to be awarded a prize for your division overall, as well as for the best mazurka. You may play one or more mazurkas, as well as another piece or pieces, as long as you do not exceed the allotted time for your division. To be eligible for this prize, you do not need to submit additional information; it is assumed that festival participants who include mazurkas on their repertoire lists are interested in the special mazurka prize. We hope this will encourage young pianists to play and enjoy some of these beautiful, exotic dances. The Adjudicator may choose to give the Mazurka awards at his or her own discretion.
